Vehicular Ad-hoc Network (VANET) is a wireless networks that uses RSUs Road side Units to perform communication process between vehicles. In VANET vehicles can communicate each other in order to avoid accidents and jams kind problems. There are different challenges occurred during data transmission in VANET such as network overhead frequent partitions, delays and many more. In this paper different challenges, characteristics and applications of VANET has been presented in detail after that different routing protocols with their pros and cons has been presented in detail.
