This paper presents a sliding mode control scheme for dual active bridge converters based on disturbance observers. Here, the various disturbances including input voltage fluctuation and load current change are considered lumped quantities. This disturbance is estimated by Nonlinear Disturbance Observer (NDO) and fed as a feed-forward signal in the proposed sliding mode (SM) control in order to compensate. The proposed SM control reduces the chattering problem and shows better dynamic performance when the system is perturbed by different kinds of disturbances. Moreover, in order to justify the controller's effi-cacy, performance using a conventional controller was compared with that of a proposed controller. The development of a whole hardware setup is explained, along with typical outcomes.
