The success of urban air mobility (UAM) heavily depends on the presence of vertiports, which are essential infrastructure. The design of vertiports undergoes a continuous optimization process based on the relevant design specifications of civil aviation authorities. This article proposes appropriate design suggestions for the vertiport design of electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft operating in UAM, whether manned or unmanned. The article summarizes the general process of vertiport design, analyzes factors influencing vertiport design, and proposes principles for vertiport design. It also analyzes vertiport facilities' design from four aspects: airside facilities, clearance zone, flight support facilities, and landside service facilities. The article aims to provide new concepts for designing UAM vertiports operating eVTOL aircraft in the future based on existing FAA and EASA specifications.
