With the richer services categories and higher quality requirements, the high system throughput and low latency packet delivery have imposed great challenges on the intelligent transportation systems, especially in a congested vehicular environment. To effectively mitigate the system traffic load and then assure the service quality for road travelers, a traffic classification scheme based on similarity of contents is proposed in this paper. By analyzing the contents of users' service requests, shared contents of different users are extracted and could be transmitted using broadcast instead of unicast. Queueing theory is employed to analyze the performance of the proposed scheduling scheme. The closed form expressions of queueing performance are derived based on time-division multiple-access based slotted media access control protocols. Simulation results validate the theoretical analysis and demonstrate the advantage of the traffic classification in terms of throughput under crowded vehicular environment.
