This paper presents an overview of the project performed within the research programme "Technology Assessment Automatic Vehicle Guidance" concerning individual driver behaviour and acceptance of adaptive cruise control (ACC). It describes and discusses the results of a questionnaire study and two experimental driving simulator studies. It is concluded that under certain conditions and limitations ACC is a promising technology in traffic.
