Time delay always exists in several control processes, especially the integrating system, whereas a proportional integral (PI) controller is most widely used. It is mandatory to design a PI controller in a system to obtain a fast and effective response, taking time delay into account, as well as the parameters of the process. A proposed tuning method is presented in the article that gives directly accurate PI parameters for a fast operation, the universal formulas are also proposed as the result. This method is also tested by using simulation tool and the experimental setup, which prove that the new method can be applied for several cases, but especially in inductor current control. The method can provide the parameters of PI control for stable response even in some cases where the inductance may change significantly.
