Sensor cloud is an extension of traditional sensor networks that allows information sharing among users, improves response time to user requests, and reduces energy consumption of individual sensors to prolong their lifetime. In this paper we investigate the performance of data caching in a sensor cloud, assuming random selection of sensors to be read and a fixed duration of the time interval in which the sensor reading is valid. We show that significant improvements in performance, both with respect to response time and energy savings, can be achieved, depending on the percentage of sensors in each request, request arrival rate, and the number of concurrent servers issuing sensing requests.
