Semiconductor optical amplifiers containing non-identical multiple quantum wells were used for wavelength conversion from 1557.38nm to 1439.60nm. Conversion via cross gain modulation and birefringence switching gave extinction ratios of 17.3dB and 11.2dB respectively.
