Smart Grids are the evolution of the grid technology, forming the basics of the future developments in power trans-missions. Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) is the key element of the Smart Grid, providing a two- way communication and management of various events. AMI turns out to be quite open and vulnerable over transmission, risking the confidentiality of the information. To overcome the constraints and maintain a healthy communication different technique are used, increasing the complexity, overhead and latency over the transmission. In this paper, we propose a solution for an authentic communication in AMI, presenting the concept of Blockchain mechanism using Information Centric Network (ICN) approach. It fulfills the demand of scalable and efficient data distribution, whereas Blockchain with its properties serve with the secure content delivery. Applications of blockchain technology in smart grids may provide several benefits and answers to some of the problems that both present and future smart grids will encounter. The proposed approach not only secures the transmission but also provides a distributed environment.
