The main aim of this paper is to design an automated traffic control system with an emergency priority mechanism based on PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) technology and visual demonstration of required changes to be made in conventional Traffic control systems on SCADA software. Since the population is increasing on a continuous scale, the utilisation and number of vehicles on the road are increasing exponentially. Conventional Traffic control systems are the best way to control the traffic flow at the junction, reducing the use of manual labour. But most of the time, the conventional traffic signals couldn’t control the traffic well when a particular path has larger number of vehicles than the other paths, which leads to overcrowding and congestion on specific paths. Therefore the paper suggests the use of IR sensors to calculate the number of vehicles and allocate green light based on vehicle density and not just allocating the fixed time interval to each road. Also this new system will give advantage to Emergency vehicles such as Ambulance, Fire-brigade to get a priority pass which is not available in the conventional system. The python code results indicated that it can be executed in the real world without affecting the conventional Traffic control system.[1],[2],[3]
