The Magnetospheric MultiScale (MMS) Mission utilizes the CCSDS File Delivery Protocol (CFDP) for transfer of stored science and engineering data from the flight segment to the ground segment. Despite extensive testing of the interface throughout the integration and test campaign, there was much to learn about the implementation of the function when it was put to the real test post launch. Realistic space network delays and drop outs in communication have led to a series of investigations and ground team responses for what is intended to be a fully autonomous protocol. This paper describes the updates required to MMS ground and flight software in order to adapt the implementation and serves as set of lessons learned for future missions.
