A new class of Grayscale Morphological Filters based on region similarity, structural element reorganization, and basic operation reconstruction is proposed to largely enhance building targets. The experiments verify that the new class of Grayscale Morphological Filters can be well used for infrared building target enhancement and performs better than other widely used methods. Moreover, the appropriate selection of SE will result in good performance of NGMF for different application purposes, and the proposed algorithm can be implemented with FPGA for real-time application.
