This paper presents an algorithm of intersection passing for intelligent connected vehicle (ICV). The lanes are numbered to depict the directions of the vehicles’ paths and to judge the existence of potential conflicts. The vehicles which may have conflicts are formed into virtual platoons. The spring-mass-damper-clutch system (SMDCS) is employed to realize collision avoidance by adjust the vehicle distance in the platoon. The acceleration variation for high efficiency passing style is analyzed and acts as input of the first vehicle in the platoon; its motion affects the other vehicles with the effect of SMDCS for a total high efficiency passing. The effectiveness of the algorithm is verified with simulations of scenarios with four vehicles and six vehicles.
