In this paper, the feasibility studies leading to conceptualisation of a 140 GHz, 3.0-3.5 MW, CW coaxial gyrotron with a dual beam output is investigated. After a careful inspection of the relevant modes, which felicitates a dual-beam output type scheme, TE/sub 44.26/ has been taken as the operating mode. Mode spectrum with competing modes is presented along with some important time-dependent self-consistent calculations.
