Balancing of spectral and temporal semiconductor gain dynamics allows broadening of mode-locked spectra. Our numerical model accurately describes SHG-FROG measurements of 185 fs pulses generated by down chirping of a dispersion-managed breathing-mode semiconductor mode-locked laser.
