Lamp pumping of Ti:sapphire lasers gives the opportunity of high emitted laser pulse energies. High average output power is possible, too, but requires high laser efficiency at high repetition rates. Furthermore other demands like good reliability of the laser system and long life of all components are becoming more important compared with a low repetition rate laser. The work presented here resulted in a significant higher total efficiency and average output power which became possible by a detailed analysis and improvement of the pumping chamber and discharge circuit design.
