Ambitious carbon emission targets are driving the rapid electrification of vehicles in the transport sector which, in turn, will have a direct and detrimental impact on the electric grid. Therefore, an assessment of the electric grid with EVs becomes crucial to ensure a reliable and compliant network as electrical vehicles (EVs) penetration grows. This paper quantifies the realistic increase in power demand in the urban area of a Metropolitan city considering practical adoption scenarios of EVs. Additionally, this paper quantifies the impact of EVs secondary effects on network design such as harmonics and short circuit capacity, using representative urban and rural networks. The finding of this research aims to help stakeholders comprehend the impact and limitations that need to be addressed for seamless adoption of EVs.
