The paper would like to explore the possibility of using PCs as an optical lens to focus electromagnetic waves, following the line of the simulation of acoustic lenses. It is demonstrated that the EM wave focusing effects are indeed realizable by photonic crystals. Electromagnetic wave transmission through a lenticular structure made of dielectric cylinders is considered by the multiple scattering theory. To the best of the author's knowledge, there has been no earlier attempt in using the multiple scattering theory to investigate the focusing phenomenon of PCs.
