Electric aircraft require lightweight and reliable electric motor drivetrains. This paper explores design optimization of electric motor drivetrains for minimum mass and maximum mission count with 1E-9 cumulative motor winding PD failure probability. Design studies are completed for two urban air mobility vehicle applications. Trades of cooling topology, bus voltage, and fault tolerance are explored for each case.
