The increasing number of pedestrians in urban areas, coupled with the rise in road accidents, highlights the need for innovative solutions to enhance pedestrian safety. This paper presents an Advanced Intelligent Pedestrian Crossing System that leverages cutting-edge technology to optimize the safety and efficiency of pedestrian crossings. Utilizing an ESP32 microcontroller, Pulse Width Modulation (PWM), and advanced sensors, the system intelligently monitors pedestrian and vehicular traffic in real-time to regulate crossing signals. The core functionality of this system includes dynamic traffic light management, prioritization of emergency vehicles, pedestrian detection, and adaptive signal timing based on traffic conditions and pedestrian flow. The system integrates infrared (IR) sensors and cameras, to detect the presence of pedestrians at crosswalks and determine the most appropriate time to allow crossing. Furthermore, the use of PWM allows for efficient control of crossing signals and lighting, reducing power consumption while maintaining performance. By implementing this intelligent system, cities can reduce pedestrian-related accidents, improve traffic flow, and enhance overall road safety [1] [2].
