The paper describes the comparative assessment of fixed-guideway transit technologies to aid in the decision-making process for the selection of a new transit system for a typical large city. It is assumed that no fixed-guideway system exists and that public transportation is now provided by buses. It is also assumed that ridership projections have been made for the new transit system so that line capacities can be determined.<>
