This paper concentrates on designing a motor utilizing a two-step magnetic skew shape and compares its torque ripple with those of a motor employing mechanical step skew and a non-skew model. In the magnetic step skew method, permanent magnets are identically positioned in both the first and second steps of the motor; however, the bridge shape is asymmetrically designed. By laminating the first and second steps in opposite directions, the magnetic resistance can be effectively altered. This approach has confirmed a reduction in torque ripple and, unlike the mechanical step skew method, an increase in average torque. The non-skew, magnetic step skew, and mechanical step skew models were analyzed and compared for torque ripple using 2-D Finite Element Analysis (2-D FEA).
