Fiber Bragg gratings are becoming widely recognized as a very promising technology for a range of structural monitoring applications, and a key component in the development of smart structural concepts and systems for both military and commercial sector applications. This paper will review recent progress and developments in the area of fiber Bragg grating instrumentation systems. In particular, highly multiplexed sensor systems for quasi static strain sensing and high resolution systems for dynamic strain sensing will be described.
