This paper presents design and test results for a U-band Gunn voltage-controlled Oscillator. A planar varactor tuned up the frequency of the oscillator is bonded on the substrate named duroid5880 with 0.254mm thickness in fin-line circuits. A novel structure is employed to solve the problem of a planar varactor and a encapsulated Gunn diode. Experimental results show that the frequency of the Oscillator is from 58.2 GHz to 59.2 GHz within 30V tuning voltage and the power output of the oscillator is higher than 25mW.
