A millimeter-wave fiber radio system based on optical distribution of subharmonic local oscillator is described. Low frequency microwave subcarriers are optically transmitted to the base station, where the millimeter-wave carrier is generated by high-order frequency multiplication and frequency mixing is performed. The system architecture considers both down- and up-streams. Experimental results are given for Ka-band applications.
