One of the most significant dimensions of a smart city is its traffic management system. As population and urban mobility grow, traffic overcrowding on roads is becoming common. Primary aim to implement this system is to demonstrate how smart traffic systems can be used to create a density-based traffic signal and based on that smooth flow of vehicles can be ensured. Based on the frequency of vehicles in any lane the timer of lights must be adjusted. This system employs the functionality of IR sensors, for designing a four lane highly dense crossroad, which is controlled by a microcontroller. It also showcases a priority vehicle, which can be depicted as an ambulance, police patrol or any VIP vehicle. In addition to this, the proposed system has also made use of android application, which can be used by priority vehicle owners that allow the traffic system to be managed according to the lane they are in. This makes the system intelligent enough to maintain green signal to those vehicles and reduce inconvenience. As a result, an efficient system is set up in which the duration of a green lights and red lights are determined by the amount of traffic present now. It can be deployed in areas of high accident risks and to ensure smooth flow of traffic and give priority clearance to VIP vehicles. This significantly reduces waiting time and improves the mobility of any smart city.
