Space based radar (SBR) has been investigated for decades and has once again made an appearance as a viable means of performing the ground moving target indication (GMTI) mission. However factors such as launch vehicle payload constraints, satellite altitude and velocity, pulse repetition frequency (PRF) and Earth rotation (ER) impact radar performance metrics such as clutter mitigation and ground moving target minimum discernable velocity (MDV). This paper will describe several methods of improving SBR GMTI performance through mechanical orientation and transmit waveform agility. The emphasis is on countering the mainbeam clutter Doppler spectral spread due to ER and range ambiguous operation.
