Summary form only given. This paper demonstrates 8/spl times/10 Gbit/s WDM transmission over 500 km (100 km/spl times/5) of DSF in 1580-nm band without any dispersion compensation or management by employing optical duobinary coding, which reduces the signal bandwidth, and increases resistance to the fiber chromatic dispersion effect.
