Heavy traffic of vehicles is an emerging challenge in all urban cities globally. Efficient switching over of traffic signals eradicates this issue considerably. The people inside the vehicle also do not have patience during peak hours. Hence the proposed work attempts to reduce the average waiting period of the vehicles by efficiently switching the traffic signals. This protocol gives preference to the radio stations present in the network. This mechanism gives priority to DSRC-equipped vehicles and changes the switching from pre-timed signals. The simulation results were compared with other technology available that is Intelligent Transport Systems and with normal traditional traffic. It is evident from the results that DSRC outperforms well.
