Phase-sensitive amplification (PSA) based on cascaded four-wave mixing (FWM), i.e. the input signal-idler pairs of FWM-based PSA are also generated by FWM process, is analytically investigated in this paper. Expressions for the amplitude and phase of output signal/idler are derived, taking into account the pump depletion and the self- and cross-phase modulation (SPM and XPM) from pumps and signals. The performance of cascaded FWM-based PSA in optical fiber communications are discussed.
