Landing gear is one of essential airplane subsystems, and the design of landing gear involves structures, weights, the layout of other subsystems and runway design. A landing gear design method is under development to be integrated within the MDO framework in-house developed by Shanghai Aircraft Design and Research Institute. The landing gear design considerations and analysis modules are reviewed and discussed, such as landing gear layout, tire selection, Aircraft Classification Number and water spray pattern. Finally the landing gear design of a regional aircraft is given as a design case.
