UAVs are widely used in transmission line inspections because of their simple operation, safety and reliability, and over-the-horizon flight characteristics, while video surveillance equipment can monitor fixed sections around the clock. The purpose of this paper is to study the transmission line UAV inspection technology and its application. The existing UAV line inspection technology and application status are analyzed and researched, and the UAV line inspection operation process is analyzed and summarized. According to the inspection content and scope, select the appropriate model for inspection. According to the characteristics of the image information collected by the inspection, a set of preprocessing operations suitable for the image of the high-voltage transmission line is proposed, which improves the quality of the captured image and makes a good preparation for the next algorithm operation. Through practical application, the efficiency and safety of UAV for tower inspection work can be significantly improved, and manual photo diagnosis can be assisted. The application case in power line inspection in this paper has achieved considerable results, proving the feasibility of defect detection.
