Summary form only given. Using a phosphosilicate fiber-based Raman laser as a pump source and a newly developed high /spl Delta/n low-loss fiber as an amplifier fiber we have carried out experiments on small signal Raman amplification. The dependence of a small signal Raman gain on 1.24-/spl mu/m pump power is presented. It is seen that the small signal gain of 40 dB has been obtained at the pump power <700 mW. The length of the fiber and the parameters of the Bragg grating were not optimized.
