The objective of this research is to propose a novel electric machine integrated with the multistage axial-flow compressor. The proposed integrated machine consists of a flux-switching permanent magnet (FSPM) machine with an airfoil-shaped rotor, which can produce electromagnetic torque and compression of gas flowing through it at the same time. Hence, reduced size and higher efficiency can be achieved. The airfoil-shaped rotor of the proposed integrated machine with following diffusor works as the first stage of an axial-flow compressor, which is connected to multiple stages through the same shaft. In this paper, thermodynamics characteristics of the integrated machine with a multistage axial-flow compressor are analyzed using two-dimensional cascades method. The electromagnetic performance of the integrated motor-compressor is validated by finite element analysis (FEA).
