The use of linear microphone arrays for aircraft noise measurement, instead of using a single microphone in every noise monitoring terminal (NMT) as in the classical monitoring systems, gives us the capability of obtaining an aircraft noise record not influenced by the background noise present in the measurement site. Herein, the main characteristics and features of a linear microphone array designed for aircraft noise measurement are discussed, and the results obtained from the usage of the array in two different urban placements are presented.
