FWM in SOAs is used for optical frequency conversion and optical phase conjugation (OPC). Although a lot of theoretical studies on FWM in SOAs have been carried out, most of them concentrated on conversion efficiency and SNR. Extinction ratio and frequency chirping, however, are very important parameters in determining transmission performance of FWM signal through optical fiber. Therefore, we have thrown our effort into accurately calculating extinction ratio and frequency chirping of conjugate signal. For accurate estimation of frequency chirping and extinction ratio, we also include the parameters: reflected waves, ASE noise, facet reflectance, spatially dependent /spl alpha/-parameter, and extinction ratio of input signal wave.
