Three phase dual active bridge converter (DAB) plays an important role in power transfer owing to its high-power density in comparison with the single-phase variant. However, light load operation leads to low efficiency in operation because of the loss of soft switching capability. The soft switching region can be improved by designing the transformer phase shift angle based on dividing the secondary winding into two unevenly set of windings. Thus, this digest lays out a generalized mathematical model for three-limb transformer which shows the effect of partitioning of the secondary phase windings on the transformer phase shift angle. Also, it utilizes the DAB model represented in the complex stationary reference frame to capture the exact solution of the winding currents. Additionally, it shows the effect of partitioning of the secondary phase windings on the soft switching region of the three-phase dual active bridge for wye-zigzag and extended delta connections.
