In conclusion, we report for the first time to our knowledge the long-period grating fabrication in germanosilicate fiber by direct CW excitation of Ge O-deficient centre GODC triplet state. The estimation of induced index change gives the value 10/sup -4/. The obtained results demonstrate the possibility of index grating writing by near-UV light.
