In this paper, the extreme pulse stretching and compression using chirped FBG is characterized with a novel modelocked semiconductor oscillator. In addition, the concept of XCPA is verified by studying the gain saturation behavior with and without the stretching of an optical pulse, and is compared experimentally and theoretically using the gain flattened mode-locked and semiconductor optical amplifiers as the gain elements.
