Railway operators are increasingly faced with various problems with the traction systems of their rolling stock, such as breakdowns and obsolescence. These situations can arise very quickly and also cause major operating cost increases to be carried throughout the life of the train. Commitments to energy saving have also progressed to improve the energy efficiency of rolling stock fleets. Operators are looking for new innovative technical and economic solutions to meet these needs.
