Over the last 10 years, ELIN Antriebstechnik GmbH have progressed from being a supplier of conventional traction components for rail vehicles into a reputable manufacturer and supplier of modern control and traction systems with microprocessor controlled three-phase technology. The paper summarises the company's latest developments in a series of successful three-phase systems-a new generation of insulated gate bipolar transistor (IGBT) traction inverter for light rail vehicle (LRV) applications. The inverter is designed to be as compact as possible and can be arranged for mounting either in the roof of an LRV or under its floor. Details of the inverter configuration are given together with a summary of the systems features and advantages. Finally, applications and future developments are outlined. (5 pages)
