Traction propulsion inverter drives, particularly the VSI, are expected to continue to be the most popular option for the foreseeable future. Technical advances in semiconductor switching devices and advanced microprocessor based controllers have contributed significantly to making such drives economic and reliable. This has enabled the full realisation of the benefits of using induction motors in traction applications.
