This paper provides a brief overview of the development and application of current traffic signal control techniques used in the UK to provide priority for buses in congested situations. The paper concentrates on the urban traffic control (UTC) systems TRANSYT and SCOOT, which are the predominant form of signal control in UK towns and cities. (5 pages)
