The paper presents the results of modelexperiments on a “Series-60” model with a blockcoefficient of 0.80 regarding the governing factors in respect of the controllability during the stopping manoeuvre. A quasi-stationary solution of the equations of motion in the horizontal plane is given which restriction is allowed if it can be assumed that the effect of deceleration on the hydrodynamic coefficients is slight e.g. in the case of large ships. In the conclusion appears that the aspect of manoeuvrability is the governing factor for the controllability during the stopping manoeuvre.
