The differential equations for the mean and variance of coupled nonlinear ship motion in random waves are derived, using the Fokker-Planck equation. The procedure for obtaining the stationary response is then described. The example of a ship performing oscillations in two modes with quadratic static coupling is considered, for the purpose of illustrating the method.
