Mit zunehmender Spanungsdicke wird die Fließspanbildung und damit auch die Struktur im Span gleichförmiger. Die Werkstoffbeanspruchung ändert sich mit der Spanungsdicke, erkennbar an der Ausbildung der Aufbauschneide. Geringe Zeitdehnung.

    The film shows the process of chip formation on a polished and etched specimen of C 45 W 3 unalloyed tool steel. The various phenomena of chip formation and the individual deformation processes can be observed particularly well in the perlitic-ferritic structure of the material. As the chip thickness increases from 4 to 55 µm the formation of flow chips, that is to say the shearing strain and, associated with it, the texture of the chips, become more uniform. The stresses and strains to which the material is subjected in the chip formation zone vary with chip thickness which also manifests itself in the build-up of material on the cutting edge.
