The evaluation program consisted of F-4 Flight Control Simulator (Iron Bird) hydraulic systems tests and tests in selected separate subsystems. The F4 Flight Control Simulator tests included a dynamic performance comparison between MLO-68-5 and MIL-H-5606, and an endurance test was conducted by cycling through three typical mission profiles. Separate tests were conducted using the F-4 utility system suction line subsystem, aerial refueling subsystem, and arresting gear subsystem. Fluid characteristics, including flash point, viscosity, etc., were checked periodically in all tests. In addition, a 'drain and fill' procedure for converting from MIL-H-5606 to MLO-68-5 without the use of an intermediate fluid was developed. (Author)
