The thrust augmentation, lift augmentation and noise reduction characteristics of compact ejectors make them potentially attractive for propulsion lift systems, although in the past poor thrust augmentation results have negated the other benefits. A synthesis of an ejector's internal flow phenomena developed in this paper indicates that improved mixing and diffusion can significantly increase thrust augmentation. A companion ejector experiment designed for rapid mixing confirms the model's augmentation predictions and shows reasonable agreement with other flow characteristics. (Author)
