The Technical Note to the Texas Aeronautical Facilities Plan (TAFP) inventories and analyzes the status of visual and radio approach aids for the TAFP airports. TAFP standards are reviewed and evaluated. Published instrument approach procedures to TAFP airports in the nonprimary commercial service, business service and community service functional classes are compared to the TAFP's standards for instrument approaches. The best approach (the published approach coming the closest to, meeting, or exceeding TAFP standards) to each airport is identified. An analysis is made of the airports with 'best' approaches not meeting TAFP standards. A review is made of the current level of operations at business service airports to determine if their approaches might meet the FAA's preliminary screening criteria for improved approach facilities. Airports meeting the criteria are identified. An inventory is made of visual landing aids at all TAFP airports in the above classes. Deficiencies are noted as are possible eligibilities for improved facilities and equipment.
