This report summarizes and analyses existing knowledge of tourist traffic on Norwegian roads. The data sources include traffic counts, the national travel behavior survey, the Norwegian foreign visitor survey, and tourist road surveys. The holiday based road traffic is described in terms of different traffic situations, seasonal variations, and the composition and quality requirement of motor tourists. The main categories of holiday motorists are Norwegians on weekend-holiday trips, and foreign motor tourists on Norwegian roads. Motor tourism in the winter season is highly concentrated in time and space. Summer is the peak season for both Norwegian and foreign tourists traveling on Norwegian roads.
